Gong Fu Style and Young Hyson Imperial Organic Green Tea

Small Chinese Tea CupsToday marks my first attempt at gong fu (Chinese tea ceremony). I bought a cheap gong fu travel set on Amazon.com that included a gaiwan (teapot), a pitcher, a strainer and five tea cups — all in the tiniest form you could possibly imagine. No tray or pets come with this set.

I celebrated the inaugural occasion with Young Hyson Imperial Organic, a Chinese green tea from Upton Tea Imports. I also ordered a pu-erh sample from Crimson Lotus Tea but figured that to be too ambitious and involved for a first-time gong fu-er (and pu-erh-er). Healing with Salada Green Tea

Salada Green TeaI had a head cold the other week that left me feeling crummy. I called in sick at work but decided to keep a previously scheduled doctor’s appointment. For health’s sake, I surrendered to the poking and prodding of the physical exam and even elected to get a flu shot which probably worsened my symptoms a bit. Afterward at the grocery store I searched for a green tea to help nurse me through. Something I hadn’t tried before.

Salada Green Tea did what is was supposed to do that afternoon. It provided comfort, hydration, and a dose of antioxidants. Things were much better the next day, and I got a chance to sip the tea without a compromised sense of smell and taste. Continue reading “Healing with Salada Green Tea”

Barry’s Tea Decaf

Barry's Tea DecafI’ve told myself many times before that I’d never try another decaf tea again, yet here I am. Maybe if I wish really hard, a good — at least a decent — decaf will come my way, and I’ll get to enjoy real tea in the evening.

Is Barry’s Decaf the one I’ve been looking for? Probably not, but it’s the best one so far. Continue reading “Barry’s Tea Decaf”

Trader Joe’s Pomegranate White Tea

Trader Joe's Pomegranate White TeaI don’t normally do flavored tea infusions, but this one was in the cabinet so I gave it a whirl. Though pomegranate and white tea are in the name, neither are detectable in the brew. They take a back seat to the tart flavor and bright red color of the hibiscus flowers (listed as the second ingredient). Continue reading “Trader Joe’s Pomegranate White Tea”

Golden Tips Tea Company – Part Two

Golden Tips Tea SamplesI continue this journey through the teas of India courtesy of Golden Tips Tea Company. Several teas were covered in Part One; it took me a few more weeks to get through the rest of the samples. It’s a tough job having to try so many Darjeeling teas, but somebody’s gotta do it.
